Sarah Palin finds her niche: Capitalize On the Violence, Anger, Distrust and Fear

Since the passage of the historic health care reform bill last week we’ve seen things in American take a very stark and ugly turn. We’ve witnessed violent protests, heard violence laced rhetoric, lies spewed on every network channel in America. We’ve seen physical confrontations, we’ve seen politicians have offices vandalized, lives threatened and violence directed at our government. And unfortunately we’ve seen political figures, sitting members of Congress, Presidential wannabes and long time pundits do every thing in their power either to either further incite the violence, personally profit from the violence and even seen politicians reveling in the violence.

One such wannabe is Mrs. Sarah Palin herself. Not Governor Palin, but Mrs. Palin. The title of Governor no longer applies since she quit her job 1.5 years into the fours years she was elected to serve her state. Mrs. Palin is all she is now and hopefully all she will be known as.

Mrs. Palin took it upon herself to be the ‘leader of the hate party’ and revels in the role. It is the role she is most comfortable in. In 2008 when Palin was ramping up the rhetoric about a presidential candidate ‘palling around with terrorists’ and ‘not like real Americans’ and ‘someone who sees America as imperfect’ threats against then candidate Barack Obama drastically increased. When the secret service contacted the McCain campaign with a request to tone it down, Senator John McCain attempted to do just that although to little too late. Yet Mrs. Palin reveled in the attention, the nastiness, the meanness, the violence, the anger. She thrives on it. She lives for it. So true to Mrs. Palin’s opportunistic nature she again takes full advantage of the situation. Frustrated, angry, confused, mis-lead, disassociated, desperate people?? Time to amp up the fear, time to get those wallets open, time to justify their hate and give them more to hate.

So first we see this on her Facebook page, Mrs. Palin’s chosen media to communicate with her ‘followers’. The graphic she includes points out the 20 Democrats up for re-election in 2010 that also voted in favor of health care reform. This is Palin’s way of profit for personal gain by exploiting the fear of others. She could care less about these elections or the outcome. What she wants is more money directed to SarahPac, because financial disclosure released so far show she gives about 1% raised to actual candidates while the majority is spent on overhead, consultants, advertising for SarahPac, flights on private jets, hotel fees for her family and friends, meals, clothing, etc. Oh yeah and $1,000 for the National Down Syndrome Association. Way to advocate for those families Sarah.

With the president signing this unwanted and “transformative” government takeover of our health care system today with promises impossible to keep, let’s not get discouraged. Don’t get demoralized. Get organized!

We’re going to reclaim the power of the people from those who disregarded the will of the people. We’re going to fire them and send them back to the private sector, which has been shrinking thanks to their destructive government-growing policies. Maybe when they join the millions of unemployed, they’ll understand why Americans wanted them to focus on job creation and an invigorated private sector. Come November, we’re going to print pink slips for members of Congress as fast as they’ve been printing money.

We’ll aim for these races and many others. This is just the first salvo in a fight to elect people across the nation who will bring common sense to Washington. Please go to sarahpac.com and join me in the fight.
Stand tall, America. Real change is coming!

While it’s easy to see for those informed on all things Palin that this is nothing more than a fund raising opportunity, it must also be said that there are far too many people in this country disturbed enough, angry enough, desperate enough or fed up enough that they might take Mrs. Palin’s graphic as literal.

But not too worry as her old pal Jon McCain tells us no one need apologize for rhetoric like this, no one need tone it down, no one needs to do anything because this is all just harmless politicking. No violence to worry about. Nothing to see here. So much so that McCain reacted to Anne Curry of the Today show much like he did near the end of the campaign when he knew he was on the losing end. Anger, frustration, deflection, talking over her and the like. At one point I really thought he’d call her a name. That was last Thursday.

But by Saturday Mrs. Palin was in Mesa to campaign on behalf of McCain in his desperate attempt to keep his senate seat. One that is now at risk due to his disatrous choice of a Vice Presidentail candidate, the very candidate he’s now using. Although those watching the speech would wonder if Mrs. Palin was really there on behalf of his opponent Mr. Hayward. Don’t have to look very hard or even have the sound on to know that Sarah Palin is THE LAST person John McCain wants to deal with let alone use for help.

So what happened at that McCain rally? You guessed it………………….violence! Kind of feels like October 2008 again huh? Two men who claim to be Libertarian showed up at the rally and called McCain out for his YES vote on the bailout for the banks in September 2008. Both men exercising their right to free speech. This is America after all. Yet when these men spoke out in opposition to a statement made by Mrs. Palin about John McCain’s dedication to his constituents, they were physically assaulted and drug out of the building, thrown in handcuffs, punched and never once informed by anyone just who was throwing the handcuffs on them until after the fact. Originally arrested although no charges filed, but those that assaulted these two men physically……just have a seat and finish listening to the speech.

Sarah wants you to stand up for your rights and freedoms and not let big government getcha, yet when someone questions Mr. McCain’s contribution to big government he’s met with violence. Violence that was celebrated and met with sarcasm from Mrs. Palin. You see Mrs. Palin suffers from a lower Emotion IQ than many of us, although there are many just as emotionally void as Mrs. Palin. She just can’t help herself. Her emotional maturity, ability to apply logic or reason, and inability to accept disappointment were all stunted at a very early age. Hence Mrs. Palin’s Mean Girl behavior. Poor girl just can’t help herself. She is what she is………………………..a mean girl.

Is it safe to assume that Mrs. Palin is clearly amping up the violence and giving it a voice. She is an opportunist in every fashion, whether taking things that don’t belong to her, charging taxpayers to fly her kids all over, not paying taxes on property she never reported, using other people’s hard earned money to fill her own bank account there is very little Mrs. Palin is above doing. Case in point below.

Yesterday Mrs. Palin leaves this lovely gem for her Facebook followers although she attempts to tie it to March Madness, her message comes through loud and clear. You can’t make me stop, nan a nan a boo boo.

From the shot across the bow – the first second’s tip-off – your leaders will be in the enemy’s crosshairs, so you must execute strong defensive tactics. You won’t win only playing defense, so get on offense! The crossfire is intense, so penetrate through enemy territory by bombing through the press, and use your strong weapons – your Big Guns – to drive to the hole. Shoot with accuracy; aim high and remember it takes blood, sweat and tears to win.

Focus on the goal and fight for it. If the gate is closed, go over the fence. If the fence is too high, pole vault in. If that doesn’t work, parachute in. If the other side tries to push back, your attitude should be “go for it.” Get in their faces and argue with them. (Sound familiar?!) Every possession is a battle; you’ll only win the war if you’ve picked your battles wisely. No matter how tough it gets, never retreat, instead RELOAD!
– Sarah Palin

As if what was happening on the weekend of the vote wasn’t violent enough we now have Mrs. Sarah Palin proudly, happily spewing the message far and wide, just don’t forget to stop by her PAC and leave a donation though ok? She’s really trying to help all you anxious, unemployed, angry, frustrated REAL Americans, but first she needs your money.

Need further proof….

Remember the day of the vote when three African American members of Congress claimed they had hate speech hurled at them and people were spitting on them? Remember how we were told that is a lie………………….well video doesn’t lie, nor will two separate videos. Take note of the alternative Nazi flag being carried around. Move along people nothing to fear here.

Their right to free speech? The right to scream racially motivated statements in someone’s face. The right to spit on elected officials in the U.S. Government.

Yet when someone else tries to exercise their right to free speech? Not so welcome then. Kind of like what happened at the John McCain rally in Mesa this weekend. Our voice must be heard. Yours, not allowed.

Oops almost forgot……while all this was going on this weekend the Feds were busy arresting a self-made militia group that intended on wiping out the entire police force in their town.

Nope nothing to denounce here. Move on people. You can a read the entire indictment if you’d like but be warned their plans are not for the faint of heart. The FBI was also busy arresting other militia members in Ohio and Indiana this weekend too.

Nothing to see here right? No one was amping up the rhetoric, no violence directed at anyone. No harm no foul right?

UPDATE: Carolyn Myss asks in her article Are Republican Right Wingers a Threat to Homeland Security:

As for Sarah Palin, our Republican Court Fool, here’s a sweet quote from her: “In Alaska, you know what we do with people like that? We hunt ’em down and shoot ’em between the eyes.” Note that she is busy trying to backtrack on that remark and a few others like, “Don’t retreat, reload”, saying that she was actually referring to “voting ’em out at the polls”. What? Since when is “shoot ’em between the eyes” a slogan for inspiring voting? Is this woman insane or what? Or does she think we are? Or is she coming very close to committing sedition? I remind you that this nation is still at war and inciting acts of violence against the government while the nation is at war borders on sedition. This may not be an anti-war protest in its purest sense but at its core, the ambition to weaken this government is crystal clear.

You can read more about Mrs. Sarah Palin’s teachings from the AIP you can read it straight from one of her teachers. He’s all too happy to take credit for teaching Sarah to be an all around anti-American girl. You betcha!

Palin backed Chryson as he successfully advanced a host of anti-tax, pro-gun initiatives, including one that altered the state Constitution’s language to better facilitate the formation of anti-government militias. She joined in their vendetta against several local officials they disliked, and listened to their advice about hiring. She attempted to name Stoll, a John Birch Society activist known in the Mat-Su Valley as “Black Helicopter Steve,” to an empty Wasilla City Council seat. “Every time I showed up her door was open,” said Chryson. “And that policy continued when she became governor.”

Hickel’s subsequent failure as governor to press for a vote on Alaskan independence rankled Old Joe. With sponsorship from the Islamic Republic of Iran, Vogler was scheduled to present his case for Alaskan secession before the United Nations General Assembly in the late spring of 1993. But before he could, Old Joe’s long, strange political career ended tragically that May when he was murdered by a fellow secessionist.

Chryson and Stoll viewed Palin’s ascendancy as a vehicle for their own political ambitions. “She got support from these guys,” Stein remarked. “I think smart politicians never utter those kind of radical things, but they let other people do it for them. I never recall Sarah saying she supported the militia or taking a public stand like that. But these guys were definitely behind Sarah, thinking she was the more conservative choice.”

“They worked behind the scenes,” said Stein. “I think they had a lot of influence in terms of helping with the back-scatter negative campaigning.”

Indeed, Chryson boasted that he and his allies urged Palin to focus her campaign on slashing character-based attacks. For instance, Chryson advised Palin to paint Stein as a sexist who had told her “to just sit there and look pretty” while she served on Wasilla’s City Council. Though Palin never made this accusation, her 1996 campaign for mayor was the most negative Wasilla residents had ever witnessed.

While Palin played up her total opposition to the sales tax and gun control — the two hobgoblins of the AIP — mailers spread throughout the town portraying her as “the Christian candidate,” a subtle suggestion that Stein, who is Lutheran, might be Jewish. “I watched that campaign unfold, bringing a level of slime our community hadn’t seen until then,” recalled Phil Munger, a local music teacher who counts himself as a close friend of Stein.

When Palin won the election, the men who had once shouted anti-government slogans outside City Hall now had a foothold inside the mayor’s office. Palin attempted to pay back her newfound pals during her first City Council meeting as mayor. In that meeting, on Oct. 14, 1996, she appointed Stoll to one of the City Council’s two newly vacant seats. But Palin was blocked by the single vote of then-Councilman Nick Carney, who had endured countless rancorous confrontations with Stoll and considered him a “violent” influence on local politics. Though Palin considered consulting attorneys about finding another means of placing Stoll on the council, she was ultimately forced to back down and accept a compromise candidate.

When Palin became the Republican vice-presidential nominee, her attendance of the 1994 and 2006 AIP conventions and her husband’s membership in the party (as well as Palin’s videotaped welcome to the AIP’s 2008 convention) generated a minor controversy. Chryson claimed, however, that Sarah and Todd Palin never even played a minor role in his party’s internal affairs. “Sarah’s never been a member of the Alaskan Independence Party,” Chryson insisted. “Todd has, but most of rural Alaska has too. I never saw him at a meeting. They were at one meeting I was at. Sarah said hello, but I didn’t pay attention because I was taking care of business.”

But whether the Palins participated directly in shaping the AIP’s program is less relevant than the extent to which they will implement that program. Chryson and his allies have demonstrated just as much interest in grooming major party candidates as they have in putting forward their own people. At a national convention of secessionist groups in 2007, AIP vice chairman Dexter Clark announced that his party would seek to “infiltrate” the Democratic and Republican parties with candidates sympathetic to its hard-right, secessionist agenda. “You should use that tactic. You should infiltrate,” Clark told his audience of neo-Confederates, theocrats and libertarians. “Whichever party you think in that area you can get something done, get into that party. Even though that party has its problems, right now that is the only avenue.”

Clark pointed to Palin’s political career as the model of a successful infiltration. “There’s a lot of talk of her moving up,” Clark said of Palin. “She was a member [of the AIP] when she was mayor of a small town, that was a nonpartisan job. But to get along and to go along she switched to the Republican Party … She is pretty well sympathetic because of her membership.”

Clark’s assertion that Palin was once a card-carrying AIP member was swiftly discredited by the McCain campaign, which produced records showing she had been a registered Republican since 1988. But then why would Clark make such a statement? Why did he seem confident that Palin was a true-blue AIP activist burrowing within the Republican Party? The most salient answer is that Palin was once so thoroughly embedded with AIP figures like Chryson and Stoll and seemed so enthusiastic about their agenda, Clark may have simply assumed she belonged to his party.

Historic Health Care Reform Signed by The President

Patrick Kennedy left a note for his father the late Ted Kennedy

So What does this mean for Americans? Well for starters we know this much.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act includes health insurance market reforms that will bring immediate benefits to millions of Americans, including those who currently have coverage. The following benefits will be available in the first year after enactment of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Access to Affordable Coverage for the Uninsured with Pre-existing Conditions
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will provide $5 billion in immediate federal support for a new program to provide affordable coverage to uninsured Americans with pre-existing conditions.

Coverage under this program will continue until new Exchanges are operational.
Re-insurance for Retiree Health Benefit Plans. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will create immediate access to re-insurance for employer health plans providing coverage for early retirees. This re-insurance will help protect coverage while reducing premiums for employers and retirees.

Closing the Coverage Gap in the Medicare (Part D) Drug Benefit The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will reduce the size of the “donut hole” by raising the ceiling on the initial coverage period by $500 in 2010.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will also guarantee 50 percent price discounts on brand-name drugs and biologics purchased by low and middle-income beneficiaries in the coverage gap.

Small Business Tax Credits
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will offer tax credits to small businesses to make employee coverage more affordable.
Tax credits of up to 50 percent of premiums will be available to firms that choose to offer coverage.

Extension of Dependent Coverage for Young Adults
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will require insurers to permit children to stay on family policies until age 26.

Free Prevention Benefits
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will require coverage of prevention and wellness benefits and exempt these benefits from deductibles and other cost-sharing requirements in public and private insurance coverage.

No Arbitrary Limits on Coverage
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will prohibit insurers from imposing lifetime limits on benefits and will restrict the use of annual limits.

Protection from Rescissions of Existing Coverage
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will stop insurers from rescinding insurance when claims are filed, except in cases of fraud or intentional misrepresentation of material fact.

Prohibits Discrimination Based on Salary
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will prohibit group health plans from establishing any eligibility rules for health care coverage that have the effect of discriminating in favor of higher wage employees.

Ensuring Value for Premium Payments
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will establish standards for insurance overhead to ensure that premiums are spent on health benefits. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will also require public disclosure of overhead and benefit spending and require premium rebates for insurers that exceed established standards for overhead expenses.

Public Access to Comparable Information on Insurance Options
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will enable creation of a new website to provide information on and facilitate informed consumer choice of insurance options.
Health Insurance Consumer Information. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will provide assistance to States in establishing offices of health insurance consumer assistance or health insurance ombudsman programs to assist individuals with the filing of complaints and appeals, enrollment in a health plan, and, eventually, to assist consumers with resolving problems with tax credit eligibility.

Clear Summaries, Without the Fine Print
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will require insurance companies to outline coverage options using a simple and standard format that enables consumers to make an apples-to-apples comparison when they are choosing their health insurance plan.

Appeals Process
Under The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, all health plans will implement an effective appeals process for appeals of coverage determinations and claims.

Administrative Simplification
Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, all health plans will adopt uniform descriptions of plan benefits and appeals procedures and will use uniform forms and claims processing processes to reduce costs.

CBO Health Care Reform Numbers Bring out GOP’s True Colors; Dark and Dingy

The Congressional Budget Office released their findings on the proposed Health Care Reform Bill. Their findings:
bill cuts deficit by $130 bill in first 10, $1.2 trill in second 10. Costs $940 billion in first decade.

Which means we are closer than ever to finally passing a health care reform bill in The United States.
Word is we will see a vote on the bill before the weekend is over.

As expected since this is good news for the Dems, the GOP is now flipping out. Literally. All judgement has long been thrown out the window and they’ll grasp at anything, anything to stop progress in this country. It’s their only goal now…………….stop anything that will benefit Americans because we don’t that one getting credit for anything.

Where the GOP is concerned it has never been about us, the Americans they swore to represent. It’s always been about them. Their progress, kickbacks, payoffs, perks, advantages and luxuries. Us, well we’ll just have to wait or pull ourselves up by our bootstraps since we’re just regular ol’ Americans.

The GOP’s response to the CBO report is as expected. No facts, no truth, no reality, just more spin, lies, innuendo, falsehoods and projection.

We have Glen Beck and Rep Steve King(R-IA) calling it an affront to God if the vote takes place this weekend.

“They intend to vote on the Sabbath, during Lent, to take away the liberty that we have right from God,” King said during an appearance on Beck’s radio show. That led to this little rant from Beck:

Thank you for pointing this out. I thought of this the other day because I’ve been saying, “faith, hope and charity.” Faith has been perverted, and our hope — they’re trying to sell this hope that we’ll have faith in the government, that they’ll be charitable.

And I thought, “They are going to vote for this damn thing on a Sunday, which is the Sabbath, during Lent.” You couldn’t have said it better. Here is a group of people that have so perverted our faith and our hope and our charity that — this is an affront to God. And I honestly, I don’t think anybody is like, “Yes, and now what we’ll do is we’ll vote on the Sabbath.” But I think it’s absolutely appropriate that these people are trying to put the nail in the coffin on our country on a Sunday — something our founders would have never, ever, ever done out of respect for God.

I guess I’d have to ask these two if it is an affront to God to watch people suffer or to ignore the suffering of their fellow man or to allow your neighbor to die. I’m sick of these tools kicking around like he’s their very own kickball to be be pulled out whenever they wan’t to justify an attack on their fellow citizens or their government. It’s disgusting and down right insulting and quite frankly fraudulent. Real Christians are horrified by the claims these idiots make and only further driven over the other side to avoid association with these frauds.

We have the RNC Chairman Michael Steele telling Rick Sanchez of CNN today that the CBO lies at the order of The White House.

STEELE: Can you just give me an honest number, Rick? How much do you really, legitimately think, adding, using the president’s number, 30 million people to a health care system that you just said doesn’t work is going to cost the American taxpayer? How much you think it’s really gonna? $940 billion dollars over ten years. So, you telling me an additional $940 billion dollars a year is going to make all of our problems go away?

SANCHEZ: According to the calculations that we did and according to the calculations the Democrats are announcing today, it’s going to save in the deficit for the United States citizens $1.2 trillion. Do you believe that’s not true?

STEELE: Ok, can I, I got two words for you — three words, three words.

SANCHEZ: Go, go.

STEELE: That’s a lie.

When Sanchez pointed out that Steele is “arguing with the CBO,” Steele responded by saying, “let me tell you about the CBO.” “Since they’ve been taken down to the woodshed at the White House last year, you can’t believe the numbers,” said Steele. “CBO is only as good as what you put into it.” “You’re saying the president of the United States is corrupted the CBO with a personal phone call or visit?” asked Sanchez. Steele then backtracked a bit, claiming that he was “just saying that, look, this whole process has not worked on behalf of the American people.”

They don’t even have a problem attacking an 11 year old boy who lost his Mother just two days ago over his story about her battle against cancer without health care coverage. They just use Glen Beck to do it.

Conservative talk show hosts and columnists have ridiculed an 11-year-old Washington state boy’s account of his mother’s death as a “sob story” exploited by the White House and congressional Democrats like a “kiddie shield” to defend their health care legislation.

Marcelas Owens, whose mother got sick, lost her job, lost her health insurance and died, said Thursday he’s taking the attacks from Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Michelle Malkin in stride.

“My mother always taught me they can have their own opinion but that doesn’t mean they are right,” Owens, who lives in Seattle, said in an interview.

Owens’ grandmother, Gina, who watched her daughter die, isn’t quite so generous.

“These are adults, and he is an 11-year-old boy who lost his mother,” Gina Owens said. “They should be ashamed.”

Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., told Marcelas Owens’ story to President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the White House health care summit last month. Murray also has spoken about it on the Senate floor. Last week, Owens was in the nation’s capital to speak at a health care rally and to meet with Senate Democratic leadership.

Limbaugh, Beck and Malkin are skeptical about the story, saying there were other forms of medical help available after Owens’ mother, Tifanny, lost her health insurance. They lambasted Democrats for using the story.

“Now this is unseemly, exploitative, an 11-year-old boy being forced to tell his story all over just to benefit the Democrat Party and Barack Obama,” Limbaugh said on March 12, according to a transcript his show. “And, I would say this to Marcelas Owens: ‘Well, your mom would still have died, because Obamacare doesn’t kick in until 2014.'”

Beck, according to a transcript of his March 15 show, pointed out that Owens’ recent trip to Washington was paid for by Healthcare of America, a group that has been lobbying for a health care overhaul.

“That’s the George Soros-funded Obama-approved group fighting for health care,” Beck said. “Since all of the groups are so concerned and involved now, may I ask where were you when Marcelas’ mother was vomiting blood?”

Beck, who’s from Mount Vernon, Wash., said there were plenty of programs in Washington state that could have helped Tifanny Owens.

Malkin dismissed Marcelas Owens as “one of Obama’s youngest lobbyists” who has been “goaded by a left-wing activist grandmother,” promoted by Murray and has become a regular on the “pro-Obamacare circuit.”

They’ve even gone as far as creating a fake memo claiming it was created by and circulated amongst Dems trashing their own plan and the MSM bought it as expected rather than acting as real journalists.

UPDATE 3/19 5:20pm: Rep. Scott Garrett (R-N.J.) just read from the memo on the House floor. And Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) responded by ripping him and demanding his source.

“What they’re doing is producing fake memos,” he said.

“That memo that he read from has no source. He will not return to the microphone to tell us what it was because he took something that was created by the opponents of health care — and there are a whole lot of them, mostly paid for by the health insurance industry — and came to the rostrum with a fake document,” said Weiner.

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) interrupted. “Parliamentary inquiry,” she yelled.

“I don’t yield for that,” said Weiner, continuing. “There is no reluctance to talk about the real CBO score: $1.2 trillion in savings for the American people. That’s the fact. That’s nothing we’re hiding from.”

“Will the gentleman yield?”

“I will yield only if the person will tell us the source of the document.”

A chaotic back-and-forth broke out until Weiner regained the floor.

“Ladies and gentlemen, what you saw just now is a microcosm for this debate: A real piece of legislation that for a year we’ve been working on and a fake document that they won’t even give a source for,” he said.

Yes, while the Dems are hard at work trying to secure a health care reform package that will not only help American families, the GOP is busy making up lies, spin and innuendo in attempt to frighten the American voter.

But, when will the GOP get it together and actually start to contribute? How long will they wait before they get to work for Americans? How long will they continue to play games with American lives?

CBO Report on Senate Bill: Will Insure 94% of Americans and Cuts Defecit by $127 Billion

From the Huffington Post:

House conservatives have threatened to block the reform bill if their more restrictive provision isn’t included. Kerry acknowledged that there could still be negotiations, “but that’s where the Senate is starting.

Instead of taxing the rich to pay for a significant piece of the bill, as the House does, the Senate plan taxes “Cadillac” health plans. But the value of plans that would be taxed is increased from previous versions to $8,500 for an individual and $23,000 for a family of four. Higher values are allowed in high-cost states and workers in high-risk jobs – such as coal miners – are given an exemption.

Reid’s bill also altered the formula by which businesses would be assessed a fee for not insuring their workers. But the new formula was unclear. Kerry called it “convoluted” and Durbin dubbed it “complex.”

Reid presented to his colleagues a preliminary Congressional Budget Office analysis of the Senate health care legislation. It finds that the bill will cost $849 billion over the next decade while covering 94 percent of eligible Americans; 31 million currently uninsured Americans would be covered under the legislation. The bill would also lower the deficit by $127 billion over the next decade and by $650 billion during the decade after that. Kerry cautioned that the numbers were still being finalized and could change slightly.

By keeping the total cost of the bill under $900 billion, Reid met one of the conditions set by the Obama White House. The bill is also expected to drastically bend the cost curve in the health care system — another major Obama objective — by achieving “almost a trillion dollars in cost savings” within the health care system.

Reid will file a cloture motion Thursday, which will be followed by an intervening day, by Senate rules, leaving Saturday for the vote.
