Sarah Palin has been awfully busy lately. Preparing for a national book tour and trying to hawk yourself requires a lot of work. Obviously, the goal of course is to drum up interest in the subject of the book as much as possible to pique the curiosity of the buying public.
In that respect, book selling should be Sarah Palin’s full time job because the one thing she’s best at is drawing attention to every single little aspect of her life.
Trouble is some of that attention may turn out to haunt Palin and her family. Sarah’s multi-tasking skills are certainly being put to the test right now, but how it all turns out is anyone’s guess, but many in Alaska say they’ll eventually have the pleasure of seeing her in bright yellow prison garb as she’s led off to serve her time as many believe is well deserved.
Over the last few weeks Sarah’s been very busy. Endorsing conservative third party candidates, firing off Palinesque type press responses about her daughter’s ex-boyfriend and father of her grandson(s) recent interviews, arranging paid speeches to the Right to Life group in WI and at the College of the Ozarks before sitting down with Oprah, and organizing a fund raiser with her cult like supporters of Team Sarah in order to drum up $100,000 and 3 first class tickets to Iowa so she can speak to the Right to Life group there without having to spend her own money.
Then busy denying her she ever requested a speaking fee, while trying to stifle the TS press release and fundraising request they sent out stating she had reached out and asked them to raise money, all while her ghostwriter was posting Facebook posts regarding several different topics and telling Sarah not to forget to pretend like she actually wrote them.
While it appeared her endorsement of candidates would be limited to anonymous facebook posts, she goes mavericky yet again and records robocalls for a candidate that previously stated her support was neither needed nor desired. But Sarah goes rogue and recorded a robo-call being sent out in Virginia apparently to help the GOP candidate for Governor there Bob McDonnell. Her spokeswoman Meg Spapleton confirms she recorded the calls and which is being paid for by the Virginia Faith and Freedom Coalition, the state branch of a national conservative group founded by former Christian Coalition director Ralph Reed.
“Virginia, hello, this is Sarah Palin calling to urge you to go to the polls Tuesday and vote for Sarah’s principles,” the former Alaska governor says in the call, which was provided to CNN by one Democrat who recorded it. “The eyes of America will be on Virginia and make no mistake about it, every vote counts. So don’t take anything for granted, vote your values on Tuesday, and urge your friends and family to vote, too.”
It is not at all clear that McDonnell requested Sarah’s help but it appears that isn’t the case.
McDonnell spokesman Tucker Martin said the campaign had nothing to do with the phone blitz and was not aware of the robocalls until he was told about them by a reporter. It is also not at all clear whether Sarah Palin herself is in favor of robo-calls despite having recorded one herself. Last October, during her vice presidential bid, Palin told reporters that voters get “irritated” by the automated calls being used at the time by both presidential campaigns, calling the tactic part of the “old conventional ways of campaigning.”
As if all that wasn’t enough she’s also been busy filling out her final financial disclosure forms during her short stint as Governor, which were due by 10/27/09. Even more she’s also had time to start another business named Pie Sky, which is listed as a charity and conveniently created at the same time her AK Legal Trust was created to solicit donations from the public to help Sarah pay legal bills stemming from the many ethical violations she was found innocent of by her trust board of friends, the Personnel Board.
It must be said both the Trust and Pie Sky were created back in April when she was still actually the Governor of Alaska. A clear ethical violation, but not even a matter of concern in Wasilla because the trusty Personnel Board won’t ever let anything happen to Sarah. At least not at their doing. Meanwhile Palin continues to solicit donations to pay legal bills via her Alaska Fund Trust more than three months after an investigator hired by the state said it appeared to be in violation of state ethics law and has yet to release the quarterly financial disclosures as promised..
Many in Alaska have been waiting for the day to come when Palin would have to finally submit those disclosures and just as many had predicted, the disclosure leaves far many more questions, than it provides answers. In fact if the sleuthing of some Alaskan bloggers that have been following Palin closely since she ran for Governor turns out to hold water and is actually investigated by someone outside of Palin’s protective circle, Sarah Palin could be in for some big trouble.
One former federal employee in Alaska with a vast understanding of government documents has uncovered that many facts and figures in Palin’s just submitted financial disclosures when analyzed against other documents Sarah has submitted just doesn’t add up. Not only don’t they add up they stink to high heaven and Alaskans seem determined to point that out to those with the power to investigate. The research they’ve done should be quite unsettling to Palin and to those responsible for upholding the law and ethics and the state of Alaska. What other troubles and Palin misdeeds will be discovered once the long
delayed stalled e-mails and other documents requested in a FOIA by the same blogger will finally be received and reviewed? Could that be the reason for such a long delay?
You might be saying to yourself, well that is an awful lot for one person to toss around and juggle all at once, but we’re talking Sarah Palin here. She’s got the energy and apparently the money (I guess since her adoring fans pay for everything she needs and wants) to plan, design and build a second home before winter hits that will sit right next door to her current home and conveniently in between her home and a third home just on the other side that although sits empty has been rented by the Palin’s for the past several months. That Alaskan Trust Fund to help Sarah Palin her bills must be paying off. Photos show it’s a rather large house and is said to have an airplane hangar within in. Writer Joel McGinnis who is currently in Wasilla researching for a book about Palin and described the property this way to the NY Daily News.
“I stopped by her house,” says McGinniss, who brought along a copy of his 1980 book, “Going to Extremes,” about his adventures in Alaska. “Her son Track answered the door, [just back from Iraq]. We had a pleasant chat. He said he’d give her the book.”
McGinniss was struck by the size of the construction on the lot the Palins have bought next to their present home.”They’re building another house and an airplane hangar,” he says. “It’s like a summer White House in the making. Just based on the size of the compound, I’d say Sarah and Todd are staying together.”
While no one can guess the outcome of the race New York’s Congressional 23rd district will be now that Palin has endorsed Hoffman, but the effect on the GOP and its unraveling will be linked to Palin by many. Some truly believe Sarah has finally come to realize she doesn’t have shot with the Republican Party and that going it alone as a 3rd party candidate would be the way for her to win. Unfortunately for her Palin probably believes this to be true, but will eventually face the same disapointment she did on November 4th, when she had no choice but to return to Wasilla.
Sarah Palin truly believes she holds a powerful place in politics and that the best way to prove that is to attempt to attack the President and Vice President every chance she gets, like the girl who gets passed over by the most popular guy in high school for another girl, just keep making stuff up about her. Yeah, that’ll show ’em Sarah.
So what has all this latest activity and publicity seeking done to drum up Sarah support and interest?
Well if you’re a member of Team Sarah, Conservatives4Palin or one of her facebook supporters, then in true fashion you need to get the word out and drum up funds in order for Palin to get paid to speak to organizations on why she’s a great political candidate. When you’re not busy with that, then next you too must attack the President and Vice President as well and the nastier, more racist and vile your comments, the better.
Attacking Levi Johnston, the 19 year old former boyfriend of daughter Bristol for the second time in the press? It appears that isn’t paying off for Sarah either. Apparently Levi is ready to talk, claims he has things that would destroy Sarah Palin and claims since his recent interviews to once again have his visitation with his son(s) discontinued. He now says he’s set on fighting for custody of his child and will go to court if need be.
From the Guardian: “I’m up to the point where I can’t see my kid again. I’m done. I’m sure we’ll end up in court. We’re definitely going to court,” Johnston, 19, said in an interview in Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city.
Seeking payment to speak to a Right to Life group in Iowa, the birthplace of a successful campaign when you seem to have political aspirations? Again, not the response you’d hope for.
“If somebody tells me they want me to pay an appearance fee, it tells me they’re not very serious about running for president,” said Ed Failor, Jr., president of Iowans for Tax Relief and an influential GOP insider. “I found it really, really odd,” Failor said. He noted that his group had not and never would pay for a politician to speak—pointing out the obvious in-kind contribution any potential presidential hopeful receives by appearing in the state that kicks off the presidential nominating process. “They come and show up here because they want to be relevant in Iowa,” he said. Steve Scheffler, the president of the Iowa Christian Alliance and a longtime GOP activist, said his organization would also never ante up. “We certainly wouldn’t do it, even if we had the money,” Scheffler said, adding that he wanted to keep his group “impartial” in the caucus process and that paying money to one prospective candidate could raise questions about such neutrality.
Ouch! Double ouch if you respond the Iowa GOP’s reaction by blaming the rabid group of supporters at Team Sarah and causing in-fighting and anoomosity within the group. One can only wonder how many jumped ship from Team Sarah after this public relations disaster.
Presumably Sarah needs to stir up attention and keep her name out there in hopes of increasing book sales, but one has to wonder when a new CNN poll says that 71 percent of Americans do not believe Sarah Palin is qualified to be president and 47 percent of Republicans do not think Palin should be president if any of Sarah’s attempts at publicity have anything to do with her political aspirations or if the only goal is keeping her name alive to make money. If she still believes herself to be a viable candidate she really should fire everyone advising her now and start all over, but mavericky as she is, Sarah will be the only one to not see this.
We have three weeks yet until her book comes out. Certainly if she can create this much drama in one week’s time it’s going to be Wild Ride these next three weeks. I’m for one hoping this Wild Ride is as messy and complicated as the Sarah’s Wild Ride home to Alaska from the Lone Star State just in time to give birth.
